Salem Baptist Church of Sparta Was Surveyed

This report describing a Caroline County church is a part of the Federal Works Progress Administration's Virginia Historical Inventory project. The project strove to inventory the vernacular architecture and history of buildings in Virginia constructed before 1860. Many reports, such as this one, included photographs of the building, in some cases providing the only extant visual record for structures that no longer exist. VHI researchers also wrote reports on cemeteries, antiques, historical events, and people. This church building was erected in 1852 and renovated several times before the survey was taken. Salem Baptist Church continues as an active church today.
