James Overton and John Claybrooke Made an Agreement

Captain James Overton (ca. 1726/1730–1816) of Louisa County entered an agreement with John Claybrooke (ca. 1770–1852), his son-in-law, to manage Overton's plantation, Brookeville. Overton promised to provide Claybrooke with the profit from the plantation's operations, after deducting the necessary taxes and other expenses the family might incur. Claybrooke married Sally Overton (1773–1820) in 1789 and lived in Hanover County, but later relocated to Brookeville. Claybrooke purchased the farm after Overton's death.
