William Norwood Wrote a Letter to Robina Hogg Norwood
In this letter William Norwood (1806–1887) wrote from Richmond to his mother, Robina Hogg Norwood (1772–1860), at her home in Hillsborough, North Carolina, to update her on his travels and the status of his family. Norwood served as rector to several churches in Richmond, including Monumental Church, St. Paul's, St. John's, and Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Rebecca Hill Norwood (1833–1919), then fifteen years old, wrote to her grandmother on the back of her father's letter. In her message, she noted the health of her mother and siblings and promised to “endeavor to write a better letter than this” in the future.
