Flour Was Shipped To Norfolk

This printed bill of lading contained blanks that Harry Lightburne, the captain of the sloop Friendly, filled with information pertinent to a shipment of flour from the Appomattox River to Norfolk for White Whittle & Company. By the end of the eighteenth century, many farmers in Virginia were decreasing their tobacco production and increasing their grain output.
