Virginia–West Virginia Shorthorn Breeders' Association Held a Show and Sale

This cattle show and auction were held in Staunton. The catalog from the sale lists and describes the cattle to be auctioned. Bred in northwestern England, shorthorn cattle were first brought to the United States in 1783. They were imported to Virginia by partner merchants from Virginia and Maryland. Shorthorn are bred for both dairy products and beef. Although not one of the most popular breeds of cattle today, some ranchers in the United States still raise shorthorn cattle.
