Francis Taylor, Diaries, 1786–1799, Accession 18710, Personal Papers Collection, Library of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia.

Colonel Francis Taylor Wrote in His Diary

On April 10, 1786, Colonel Francis Taylor (1747–1799), of Orange County, mentioned Colonel Madison Jr. in his diary. James Madison (1751–1836) became the fourth president of the United States in 1809. The election to which Taylor referred was for a seat in Virginia's House of Delegates for the October 16, 1786, to January 11, 1787, session. Taylor's opinion that Madison would win was correct.
