[page] 11 Apl 23 1884 At a meeting of the Camp of the Association of Ex-Confederate Veterans held at the Mayor's office, city of Portsmouth on the evening of Arl 23d 1884, at 8 1/2 o'clock, Capt V O Cassell in the chair, the minutes of last meeting were read and approved. Private Wm Keeling objected to minutes. He stated that Sergeant should be recorded as Sargeant or Sergeants were not Doctors. The chair sat down on him. An invitation from the Farragut Post No 1 G A R was read & received & accepted & a committee of three to wit; Col H C Hudgins, Jno T Lovett and Capt Thos M Hodges were appointed to frame suitable resolutions to express to Farragut Post the gratifation of the Camp at receiving the invitation, & the cordiality with which it was accepted. On motion Capt V O Cassell was added as Chairman of the committee, Col Stewart chairman of the committee on By-Laws & Constitution reported that the work was done & By-Laws complete & that he had placed them in the hands of the Secretary of the Camp, so that they might not
