April 10th 1935. The annual meeting of the Portsmouth Branch of the Needlework Guild was held April 10, 1935 at the home of the president, Mrs. Kenneth McAlpine. The meeting opened with the Lord's Prayer and the president presided at this meeting. The minutes of the 1934 meeting were read and approved. 1587 articles of linen and wearing apparel were distributed to charity in 1934. The Treasurer, Miss Williams gave her report, which showed a balance of $40.91. Mrs. J. D. Collins, custodian of the reserve reported 247 articles left in the reserve. These were used during the year in private cases. A letter was read from Mrs. Reba Barrett Smith concerning the annual meeting in Philadelphia the second week of May. This year is the fiftieth anniversary of the Guild in America. A motion was made and carried that this branch send ten dollars for the fiftieth anniversary gift. The president, Mrs. McAlpine read several interesting facts from the report of Mrs. Preston, National president. Mrs. Preston stated there were 749 branches thru out the country and over one million articles were collected
