At a Court of Oyer and terminer held for the County of Sussex, at the courthouse thereof, on Thursday the 4th day of January 1849, for the trial of Harrison, a negro slave belonging to George Bailey of the County aforesaid, charged with feloniously attempting by force or fraud to ravish and carnally know Rebecca W. Spain the wife of Wyatt Spain on the night of the 19th December 1848 at the dwelling house of Wyatt Spain in the Said County. the court (after trying and Condemning this Said Slave Harrison to be hung or hanged on the 9th day of February 1849) proceeded to value him as follows, Viz. ~ Jessee Hargrave at $600 William H. Pegram " 550 Thomas D Brown " 500 William J. Harrison " 700 Benjamin W. Belsches " 550 5/2900 ______ $580 So the Court values the Said Slave Harrison at four hundred and Eighty dollars.
