should not in justice be made partner defend't. to this suit and permitted to contest the rights of the plaintiffs to their freedom in such manner as to then should deem fit; - and this respondent having fully answered prays to be hence dismissed &c. Isaac Medley Halifax County to wit: This day Isaac Medley personally appeared before me a justice of the peace for the county aforesaid and made oath that the matters & [items?] set forth in the foregoing answer so far as stated of his own knowledge and time, and so far as stated in the knowledge & information of others he believes there to be true.
