The answer of Richard Perkins, late Sheriff of Campbell and as such admr. - with the will annexed of Jesse Wood deceased, to a Petition filed in the Cir Court of Campbell by Wiatt - Catharine - Paulina & others being free persons of color - This respondent admits the general allegations of the bill to be true - and is willing that his accounts or admr. of Jesse Wood be settled - He states that a [illegible] of them, in part , has been made & recorded in the County Court of this County - and he presents that settlement - as a part of this answer - He is willing that the Court make such order as may be right in the premises - and writes in the prayer of the Petitioners, that they may be protected, pending this proceeding, from the penalties of the act of assembly forbidding free negroes to remain in this State &c. - and at a proper time, that they be removed to some free state, according to the testator's will -
