to the Marshal of this District who is hereby directed to sell the complainants at public auction for the time they respectively have to serve after having advertised them for one week in some newspaper printed in the Town of Alexandria for cash and after deducting costs and charges of sale and paying the said fees of the said Rounsavell pay the balance to the said Cureton as his agent authorised [authorized] to receive it if any should remain. And whereas the Marshal of the District of Columbia did in pursuance of the said decree after having duly advertised the time and place of the sale of the said negroes sell them at public sale to the highest bidder for ready money at which said sale the above named Thomas W. Hewitt became the highest bidder and purchaser of negro Lewis at the price of one hundred and ninety three dollars. Now the conditions of the said obligation is such that if the above bound Thomas W. Hewitt his heirs, executors or administrators and assigns shall produce the said negro Lewis to one of the Judges of the said Circuit Court at the court house in the Town of Alexandria on the tenth day of December eighteen hundred and thirty four if the said negro Lewis shall be then living or shall not voluntary depart from the service of the said T. W. Hewitt or his assigns then this obligation to be void else to remain in full force power and virtue in law. Witness our hands and seals the day and year first herein before written. The words "and assigns" and "or shall not voluntary depart from the service of the said T. W. Hewitt or his assigns" being first interlined.
