STATE OF VIRGINIA. At a Court held for Norfolk County the 21st day of November, 1848 John Flaharty an alien, who has lately arrived in the United States, and is desirous of being naturalized a citizen thereof, this day appeared in Court, and in pursuance of the Act of Congress made a report of himself, which report is in the following words, to wit: I, John Flaharty in order to become a citizen of the United States, make the following report of myself to the County Court of Norfolk County i the state of Virginia. I report that I was born in [county?] Galway in Ireland in the dominions the British Crown in July 1826 being now in the 23d year of my age; that I am a subject of the Queen of Great Britain owing allegiance to the monarch, and none other; that I migrated from Ireland to the United States in the year 1847, and that I intend to settle myself in the Town of Portsmouth, in the State of Virginia, one of the United States. Given under my hand this [blank] day November, 1848 John Flaharty X his mark And the said John Flaharty declares on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Soveignty whatever, and particularly to the Queen of Great Britain Copy Teste Arthur Emmerson C.C.
