State of Virginia Norfolk County Court: At a Court held for Norfolk County on 15.. Nov. 1852 Patrick Cooke an alien, who has lately arrived in the United States and is desirous of being Naturalized a citizen thereof this day appeared in Court and in pursuance of the act of Congress made a report of himself which report is in the following words; to wit: I Patrick Cooke in order to become a citizen of the United States make the following report of myself. I report that I was born in the County of Galway in Ireland on the 1st day of August 1829 being now in the 24th year of my age, that I am a subject of Victoria 1st Queen of Great Britain owing allegiance to that Monarch and now other that I migrated from from [sic] Ireland to the United States in the year of 1848 and that I intend to settle myself in the Town of Portsmouth in the State of Virginia One of the United States - Given under my hand this 15th day of Nov. 1852 -- Patrick Cooke And the said Patrick Cooke declared on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United State [sic] and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince potentate, state or sovereignty whatever and particularly to Victoria the first, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Copy Teste -- Arthur Emmerson cc
