STATE OF VIRGINIA. At a Court held for the City of Portsmouth 4th day of May 1865 Patrick Gallagher an alien, who has lately arrived in the United States and is desirous of being naturalized a citizen thereof, this day appeared in Court, and in pursuance of the Act of Congress made a report of himself, which report is in the following words, to wit: I, Patrick Gallagher in order to become a citizen of the United States, make the following report of myself to the Court of Hustings for the City of Portsmouth. I report that I was born in the County of [Lietrim?] Ireland on the 6th day of January 1819 being now in the 46 year of my age; that I am a subject of Victoria Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland owing allegiance to that monarch and none other; that I migrated from Ireland to the United States in the year 1846, and that I intend to settle myself in the City of Portsmouth, in the State of Virginia, one of the United States. Given under my hand this 4th day of May 1865 And the said Patrick Gallagher declares on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Soveignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria Queen of the United Kingdom Great Britain and Ireland.
