To The Judge of the Court of Hustings for the city of Portsmouth Your petitioner Samuel Boyd an alien & native of Ireland respectfully represents that he enlisted in the U. S. Naval Service in February 1864, that it was at that time and still is his bona fide intention to become a Citizen of the United States and that he was honorably discharged from said service on the 31st January 1865. He desires to become a citizen of the United States and prays that he may be admitted a citizen thereof in pursuance of the provisions of the Act of Congress entitled "an act to define the pay & emoluments of certain officers and for other purposes passed July 17th 1862 And your petitioner will ever pray &c Samuel Boyd
