STATE OF VIRGINIA. AT a Court held for Norfolk County the 17th day of October, 1854 James Connelly an alien, who has lately arrived in the United States, and is desirous of being naturalized a citizen thereof, this day appeared in Court, and in pursuance of the Act of Congress made a report of himself, which report is in the following words, to wit: I, James Connelly in order to become a citizen of the United States, make the following report of myself to the Court of Norfolk County I report that I was born in Ireland, County of Galway in Great Britain [in the year 1831?] being now in the [blank] year of my age; that I am a subject of Victoria the first, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland owing allegiance to that monarch, and none other; that I migrated from Ireland to the United States in August 17th in the year 1854, and that I intend to settle myself in the Town of Portsmouth, in the State of Virginia, one of the United States. Given under my hand this 17th day of October, 1854 James Connelly his X mark And the said James Connelly declared on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Soveignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria the first, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Copy Teste Arthur Emmerson C.C.
