District of Columbia, Washington County -- ss,

On this fifteenth day of September 1842 before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in & for the county aforesaid personally appear John H. Goddard & Simon Frazer citizens of the United States, and make oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that they are well acquainted with Henry Truman who is about to apply to be admitted a citizen of the United States, that said Henry Truman has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United five years at least last past without having been out of the Territory of the United States, during that time and one year at least last past within the jurisdiction of this District, and that during the whole of that time, he has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and [will?] [illegible] to the good order & happiness of the same--
