County of Alexandria, to wit:

I, Edmund I. Lee, Clerk of the United States Circuit Court of the District of Columbia, for the County of Alexandria, Do hereby certify, that on the Eighth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nineteen personally appeared, Edward Smyth who reported himself and stated that he is thirty years of age...that he was born and formerly resided in Cavan Ireland from hence he has emigrated...that he is a subject of, and owes allegiance to, the King of the United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland...and that he intends to settle in Alexandria, within the jurisdiction of the United States.

In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand, and affixes my seal of office, the 8th day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and nineteen
