Circuit Court, District of Columbia, COUNTY OF WASHINGTON: John P. Poss a native of Germany aged about thirty years, bearing allegiance to the King of Bavaria who emigrated from Havre and arrived at Baltimore on the 11th September 1831 and intends to reside within the jurisdiction and under the government of the United States, to wit: at Washington City D.C. makes report of himself for NATURALIZATION, and declares an oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States of America, and to renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to the King of Bavaria according to the several acts of Congress in such case made and provided. In Testimony Whereof, I hereto set my hand and affix the Seal of said Court, this 6th day of June 1840. [illeg signature]
