District of Columbia county of Alexandria } sct John Lawson and Thomas M. Rose citizens of the United States appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the County of Alexandria and made oath that Henry Brown a free man who is about to apply to be naturalized has continued to reside within the United States for five years last passed and has continued to reside for one year last passed within the County of Alexandria & District of Columbia untill the present time and that he has during all that time behaved himself as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order & happyness of the same-Given under my hand this 11th day of May 1836.
