Brunswick County to wit John Ezell of the county aforesaid Complains of Samuel Ezell of the the said County in Custody &c of a Plea that the said Samuel render up to the said John one Nergroe man slave named Cain of the Value of one hundred pounds which he the said Samuel detains from the said John For this to wit. Whereas the said John on the day of in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred & ninety in the County of Brunswick & within the Jurisdiction of the District Court held at Brunswick Civil House did own & was possessed of a Negroe man slave named Cain of the Value of one hundred Pounds Virginia Cur'y as his own proper goods & Chattles and being so thereof possessed he the said John in the day & year aforesaid did & within the Jurisdiction aforesd. Casually lost the same out of his hands & possession which said Negroe man slave named Cain of the value of one hundred pounds afterwards to wit on the day & year aforesaid in the County aforesaid & within the Jurisdiction of the district Court aforesaid came to the hands & possession of the said Samuel by finding Yet the said Samuel well knowing the said Negroe man slave named Cain to be the proper good & chattles of the said John hitherto has refused to deliver the same to the said John altho' he to deliver the same he has been often required & he the said Samuel yet refuses to deliver the same to the sd. John whereby he has sustained damage thirty pounds & wherefore he brings suit &c. B. p Q
