Brunswick Sct The Deposition of Frederick Green being first sworn of full age & sound mind as a witness in the Suit Littleton Rains against Robert Cowell in the District Court of Brunswick deposeth and saith that some time in the fall of 1789 this deponant was at the house of one John Clayton in the State of South Carolina who this deponant saith. Informed him that he the said John Clayton lived a neighbour to Jefferson Rains in the said State and that the said Rains was in the armie & supposed to be killed, at the battle of Gilford, as he had not been heard of Since. and this deponant farther saith that it was Generally reported that the said Jefferson Rains had never been married or left any lawfull Child and further this deponant saith not Taken before me at my barn house this 7th day of February 1791 Fredk Green Test Thos Claiborne
