Commission of Joshua Frye, 1754 Feb. 25.

Contains a commission of Joshua Frye from Lieutenant Governor Robert Dinwiddie as colonel of the Virginia Regiment being sent to erect and maintain a fort at the Fork of the Monongahela River. Attached is a note that George Washington served as lieutenant colonel under Col. Joshua Frye and became colonel upon the death of Frye en route to join Braddock. The note also indicates that the commission was "presented to the State Library by Mrs. Lucy J. Fry, widow of Capt. W.O. Fry of Albemarle County, fourth in decent from Col. Joshua Frye, October 8, 1900."
