Abstract

Contains a petition of William Byrd, Samuel Meredith, James Walker, and William Christian to William Nelson, President of the Council, asking for permission to take up & obtain grants for fourteen thousand acres of land on the eastern bank of the Ohio River near the mouth of the Little Kanawha or Elk River for their service as officers during the late war. According to the petition, William Byrd served as a colonel of the 2nd Virginia Regiment during the late war and Samuel Meredith, James Walker, & William Christian served as captains of the regiment.
