Abstract

Contains a report of the Committee of the Privy Council, Whitehall, on the act laying a duty on liquors & slaves passed in Virginia in 1723. According to the Committee, the five pound per head duty on slaves from 1710 to 1718 was a great hindrance to the slave trade & poor planters. The Committee recommends that the act be repealed and that no similar act be passed in the future.
