Abstract

Contains an order from [Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood] to inhabitants on the frontiers between the James & Pamunkey rivers authorizing them to range on the frontiers for their protection against the Seneca Indians. Spotswood writes that he has sent a messenger to the governor of New York demanding he keep the Senecas in their territory according to the peace of 1686. Spotswood also writes that he has commissioned John Hughes to command the volunteer rangers on the frontier between the James & Pamunkey rivers.
