Abstract

Contains a deposition of James Urquhart sworn before Nathaniel Harrison & Edmund Berkeley regarding bribes to his fellow prisoners on board the Elizabeth & Anne of Liverpool. According to Urquhart, some of the prisoners being transported to Virginia were allowed to make their escape at Cork, Ireland, after they bribed the master of the vessel. In addition, Urquhart states that he also bargained for his own liberty, but the captain refused so as to not raise suspicion among the other officers.
